From the road - June 29, 2009

Can you believe that we just had our last weekend in the month of June???  The summer seems to be flying by already and we’ve barely just begun!

We had a great time having our first “summer” experience – CAMPING!!!  David Joy and the boys left Thursday night and set up the motor home at the Marble Springs Campground and had a good time that first night sitting around the campfire!  Once the boys were asleep a group of campers – friends from Tecumseh Freewill Baptist – joined us around the fire outside our home.  Joanne brought her guitar and we sang a few choruses and talked … it was so relaxing.  Once the crowd started dwindling down Joy actually fell asleep in her chair looking up at the stars.. now, that’s relaxing!  Friday morning we had breakfast and then walked around the campground with the boys and enjoyed letting them play on the swings and the slide!  Ron and Charlene came over around 2 p.m. and shortly thereafter set up began.

The concert went over well, especially for a first time!  We had almost 200 people at the concert!  There is just something about being there with the trees all around you looking up into the clouds and feeling like you are singing directly to Jesus sitting there before you!  Friday night ended with another campfire.

Saturday morning the boys played on the swings and slides a little bit more and then we headed hit the road for Harrison Michigan around 4 p.m.  This turned out to be quite the adventure… David’s words – he felt like a P.I. – like Simon and Simon (an old show we watch).  Our GPS stood true to its leading us astray – in Harrison Michigan there are four locations with the same address, after the first 2 NOT being a church – we stopped and asked for help … it was at that time we were informed there was a little town called “Temple” – just outside of Harrison – that the mailing addresses are still Harrison (this made sense since our church name was Harrison Temple Church of the Nazarene).. next issue – we’d been unable to contact the Pastor last week.  We arrived and sure enough the church was locked up tight… at which time David approached a neighbor – who knew nothing about the church… then David called the local police department that had no information for the Pastor – who in turn transferred David to the Clare County Sheriffs Department – who after 30 minutes of searching databases – had NO information for the Pastor – as we sat on the road at the corner – about 9:50 p.m. a car turned the corner and David flagged them down and asked if they knew anyone who attended the church – after a moment or two the driver said she thought “Sandy” attended there and we followed her to Sandy’s house.  At 10 p.m. at night David was walking up to a complete stranger’s house and knocking on the door… David disappeared into the house and about 15 minutes later came out with the phone number of the assistant pastor, learning that the Pastor was on vacation this week… and the name of an individual who would meet us at the church to get us plugged in… Finally about 11 p.m. we were plugged into the church and trying to get into bed… whew  - what a night!

Sunday a.m. we had a GREAT time with the folks there at Harrison Temple Church of the Nazarene and are so thankful for their warm welcome!  After the service we headed over to Weidman Michigan to be with our friends at the Baptist Church there.  This was a church that we had to cancel last year because of Troy’s birth… it is also a special church to us because when we were there 2 years ago we had gone out to eat with them afterwards and while sitting at the restaurant Ronnie chuckled out loud for the first time!  We had a great time of worship and fun with these people and are so thankful for their prayers and support of our ministry!  We rolled home arriving shortly after 11 p.m.  We had a delay and were getting frustrated – but God ALWAYS has his perfect timing – David and Joy were driving home on I-94 and came around a curve to find an awful car accident involving several vehicles.  We are so thankful for God’s hand of protection… as always … amazed at His perfect timing… though different than ours, He ALWAYS knows best!

Please keep us in your prayers – we are traveling to Bowling Green Ohio this weekend!  We’ve got a great service planned for Fourth of July and then we are camping at a church with a group of folks … apparently they project the NASCAR race on the side of a barn… David is pretty excited about this!  Then Sunday a.m. we’ll be back with our friends at Hope Lutheran Church… these people love the Lord and have always been so good to us!

Hope to see you soon!

May God Continue to Bless you,

Ron Charlene David Joy Ronnie & Troy
