News update on Troy Brown July 28, 2008 at 08:43 AM EDT
Boy I'm tired already just thinking about today - when Mommy was holding me this morning I overheard her talking to my buddy Amy - Amy told Mommy that I am going to get to go into a crib today. I'm so excited about this because now I'll be able to hear real clearly what plans these nurses put together for me... In this box it is pretty hard to make out all their little schemes - you know like when they try to poke me for blood - or change my diaper - or the nasty eye exam - now I'll know what's coming! I'm also going to get to have a music box and whatever else I'd want in a crib.
I've also got some great news for you... yesterday, my friend Rosemarie sat down with me and taught me how to take a bottle. I really liked it... it was hard to get used to having something come out of the nipple when I'm so used to sucking on a pacifier and getting nothing - but it tasted pretty good. I only get to have 1 bottle a day right now - and the rest of my food I get through the continuous pump. But if I show them how good I am at this - I may be able to get more bottles! I know I know - its gonna take time. This morning I looked like a "Prize Fighter" is what Amy told Mommy. I am retaining some fluid and they finally gave me some lacix this morning so hopefully that will help me get rid of some of the fluid - they knew something was up when I got weighed last night and I weighed 4 lbs 1 oz. That's a lot of ounces to put on in 2 days. The problem with the lacix is that to much of it can cause problems with your hearing and your kidneys and some other things... so they don't want to give this medicine unless they absolutely have to. Once my food gets up closer to what I'm supposed to be getting there is a different type of diaretic that they can give me to get rid of fluid - but because my tummy has been so sensitive they don't want to put any medicine in my food yet. Well, that is about it for right now. I need to get my rest to be ready for the BIG DAY - the crib - and my big brother's physical therapist is coming to meet me today to teach me some tricks with the bottle too. So I better get back to sleep. Thank you for your prayers, Love, Troy
